Passenger Trains > Mondays 48 through western NY

Here is this mornings Amtrak train 48 passing eastbound through Bergen NY. Today's 48 had two of Amtrak's special units, anniversary train unit 822 and veterans unit 42. This marks the third trip for this pair of units on train 48 in the last week.

Good to see the consist now running -- if I interpret correctly, it is Boston baggage, Boston Sleeper, Boston Business Class/Lounge, 2 Boston coaches, 5 NY coaches, New York diner/lounge/whatever, 2 NY Sleepers, NY baggage. 

With the Boston dinette car having become half Biz-half dinette, it has been pushed ahead of the Boston coaches, so now it is a very long walk from the NY coaches and sleepers. The Chicago passengers tend to be in the rear NY coach.

And for those in the Boston sleeper, the diner is a loooong ways off.  Good way to have some exercise enroute to work off the French Toast. 

Actually, the new arrangement makes sense in its own way.  But, I now wonder, with only a half-dinette up front and a busy diner/lounge in the back, where does the crew hang out?  (The B&A crews were notorious for demanding half the Boston food service car as their exclusive space .... does this mean a coach end for track watching on the B&A or have they found a way to make part or all of that last car off limits?)

Power to be used on Toys-For-Tots train Friday to Sunday starting out of Rensselaer.

Is this service usually a pair of locomotives leaving Chicago, or just one? 

Do the initial loco (locos)'go through to NYP? If you  go through to Boston do you get a fresh loco from Albany?

 

Chicago locos go with the Boston section (the Boston loco and cars detach and head for the Hub of the Universe) while the dual-mode loco for NY is then added to the remaining cars.
