SMART three-car train

SMART served up a surprise today: a three-car test train, with an engineer who was playful with
horn and bell.

SMART is not planning to operate three-car trains in regular service, and if they do operate three-car
trains, they will look like this, because their ordered "B" midtrain cars were cancelled in favor of more
"A" cars with cabs.

There is no passage through the cab.

As it approaches it sounds almost like an Empire Tie-Fighter. I would have though George Lucas would have trade marked that sound.

Gary, I agree, it does sound like a tie-fighter. The sound could be a result of a rail scrubber truck that has been "conditioning" the rails with the hopes of improving the shunting of the signal system.

Or they didn't want and/or need them so they didn't order any.

SMART had ordered some but converted the order to more A cars with cabs.
