Passenger Trains > SMART simulated station stopDate: 10/20/16 00:10 SMART simulated station stop Author: GenePoon SMART test train makes a simulated station stop at Rohnert Park, CA, 19OCT2016
REAL station stops won't commence for several months, now that startup has been delayed from late 2016 to a cautiously estimated "late Spring 2017." Edited 1 time(s). I'd never have noticed it had not the lady with her baby in a stroller happened to be in the video, but somebody was thinking when they put up that abbreviated maze at the crossing. There's NO GUARANTEE** that having to stop and make a couple of direction changes before crossing the tracks will prevent somone from walking in ftront of a train anyhow. But it surely can't hurt to make pedestrians break their stride and at least become aware they're about to cross the tracks ... and look for trains Fritz in HSV, AL **In the Navy it was common knowledge that no matter how safe and "sailor proof" something was made to be, a dumber sailor would inevitably come along and find a way to defeat it. Of, course, nobody knew who that sailor was until AFTER he'd proved that it wasn't "sailor proof." Date: 10/20/16 06:18 Re: SMART simulated station stop Author: dan7366 navy5717th Wrote:

Of, course, > nobody knew who that sailor was until AFTER he'd > proved that it wasn't "sailor proof." It's not always that the sailor disproving the "sailor proof" is dumber. Nukes tend to look at things like that as a challenge. Posted from Android Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/20/16 06:20 by dan7366. Date: 10/20/16 10:41 Re: SMART simulated station stop Author: Margaret_SP_fan Nice video, but -- Did you HAVE to stand IN THE GAUGE
when you made that first part? Geez...... Date: 10/20/16 13:16 Re: SMART simulated station stop Author: kinnearyard So Somebody ,please explain ,what are we talking about here . I gather it has something to do with crossing safety .

Knowing what was going to happen, and with a SMART contractor employee (whom I railroaded with back in my SP days) practically at my elbow, helps! By the way...if you were planning to follow SMART on your scanner, you probably can't. SMART is using digital communications (NXDN). Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/20/16 13:59 by GenePoon. The Whister TRX-1, TRX-2 are supposed to get NXDN via a firmware update by the end of the year. Date: 10/21/16 03:33 Re: SMART simulated station stop Author: navy5717th bayview_boy Wrote:
------------------------------------------------------- > So Somebody ,please explain ,what are we talking > about here . I gather it has something to do > with crossing safety . What I was talking about was crossing safety. Watch the lady with the baby in a stroller having to negotiate the little "maze" at the intersection of the sidewalk and the ROW. It made her STOP-- instead of just continuing to blithely walk into the ROW without paying attention to the potential danger that crossing tracks always presents. My accompanying comments merely pointed out that something like this is NO GUARANTEE that some pedestrian might say: "Who put this %$*&(*%^*^** in my way?", and after negotiating it, walk into a passing train. They do it in cars all the time. Other posters were talking about other aspects of SMART. Fritz in HSV, AL Date: 10/21/16 05:22 Re: SMART simulated station stop Author: SP4360 Metrolink has those "mouse mazes" and people will walk out into the gutter and simply bypass the things. Some minds you just can't fix.

In addition to the slow acceleration, all crossings are considered "malfunctioning" and must be approached prepared to stop not exceeding 15 mph. Posted from Android Edited 1 time(s).
