Slideshow of CSX Ohio River Bridge work near Henderson, KY
Author: CSX2605

This is a video slideshow I put together of photos Brett Quirk took of work on CSX's Ohio River Bridge near Henderson, KY(with his permission). The reason for the new track going in to replace the concrete ties on the concrete deck portion was that the concrete ties pulverized the ballast between the two concrete sufaces. Wood ties absorb the energy and doesn't crush the ballast. This took place c.2008.
This area is actually in Indiana and is known as Rahm with Henderson, KY just on the other side of the river.

Some incredible images there.

That structure is also quite incredible.

Are you sure that was in Indiana? The border there is sort of quirky. Kentucky owns everything up to the north shore of the Ohio River at summer pool as it was in 1792 when Kentucky became a state (years ago there was a dispute over the border between KY and it's neighboring states to the north and that was the decision of the Supreme Court). .The river has changed course over the 200+ years since. If you drive north bound over the U.S.41 bridge, you are still in KY for a while. Ellis Park is in KY even though it's north of the Ohio River.

Looks like the north shore is all Indiana

Apparently this is the L&N bridge south
of Evansville. Not a drawbridge -- how
much room underneath it?

Yes, it is a former L&N bridge. I think it was built around 1932 to replace the old bridge that was next to it. No drawbridge but plenty of room for barges to pass underneath. I’m sure it’s been hit a time or two over the years by a barge.

Very nice & thanks for sharing. Nice photo of the crane lifting the small dozer up onto the bridge.

I believe The Henderson Bridge is the official name.

The old bridge was aligned with 6th St in Henderson. The replacement bridge is aligned with 4th St.

An example of why it's hard for railroads to earn their cost of capital....that ain't no cheap work they are doing there!

you can't use concrete ties in the mountains either where there is rock
