"Downeaster" in Maine..........
Author: mp208

Maine supported Amtrak service in Maine provides five Portland - Boston round trips, with 2 going beyond to Brunswick.  Here we see a sampling of this service supplied by push - pull and/or pull - pull equipment sets. Unfortunately, the capacity far exceeds the demand.  "Built it".......and they didn't come.  "They" just aren't out there in any semblance of populace in the north woods.

clip 1 - Southbound train slides through Kennebunk station, where a stop will be created in 2016 (8-31-15)
clip 2 - Northbound train sails across the Scarborough marsh, only a few minutesw south of its terminal in Portland. (9-2-15)

I like your first video. No horn, and then the train rushes by almost silently.

Your statement is not true about they did not come!!!!!  they had banner years with our 500,000 people taking it....This year ridership is down due to track work and other issues.

North of Portland there are but a handful of passengers on each train......................The latitude at which the moose outnumber the people is undetermined.

Maybe so, but your original post didn't single that segment out.

One glitch for me was that it wasn't convenient to change trains from the south in the Boston area to continue north.  I would rather go by train, but since I needed to rent a car anyway, it was just as simple... and maybe cheaper to just get a car in Boston and drive the rest of the way.  I'd go back to Maine sooner if I could get there conveniently by train!
