GO Transit remaining F59s
Author: newtonville150

A surprise on my morning commute, F59s top and tail. This is a Stouffville line train that I pick up at Danforth. Not normally a job for F59s. I can only assume that equipment was out of position due to last evenings fatality at Bramalea, which led to a Kitchener line train being cancelled. How many F59s are left? I think just four, but I'm not sure.

Photo and video shot on my cellphone.

I'm sure there must be a reason they kept the station shed cantilevers. There is no roof on them so one must wonder what exactly is the point? Mabye a plan to cover them someday?

A current controversy is they are trying to figure out how to accommodate clearance for overhead wires when they electrify the lines. Also the train shed is apparently a heritage structure, so they're limited in what they can do to it.

Those are nice looking locos.  I've always liked them and during the era when the F's were just hanging on, it was a neat time to see the GO trains.

And the Leafs were .... (Oh, never mind; they weren't winning then either).

Increase height of shed by extending columns or piers?
