That was awesome. Many of us were simply born too late!

Wouldn't it just be great to sit in a lawn chair and watch a 2-8-0 or Mike doing the local switching?   No fantrip or anything, just watch it the way it was.
Wonder if she was doing some breaking in on the last running light sequences.    Looked like when he was first oiling around the piston rod was pretty warm.
I'm loving these snippets you're posting and I hope there is a large supply of them.  This is what I miss about railroading.

Very interesting details and as you pointed out, a swap from a rectangular tender to a Vanderbilt style later. Notice too the rarer bay window caboose using hang-on type markers. Looks like late springtime in a pretty area. This is the best video you have yet posted!

I have to echo what dmaffei said.  I really enjoy these SP steam videos (movies) you've been posting.  Sometimes I watch them 2 or 3 times.  This is from a guy who grew up with diesels. Keep em coming and thanks.

Very nice video, thanks for posting.

Now, serial nitpicker that I am, I am going to question the lead caption.  I don't think those
F units on the point are dead, although there does appear to be a dead unit about two cars back.
Rather, I think this is a helper job.  While I can't get a good look at the number board on 2724,
the number clearly isn't that, which would indicate she was helping a regular train.  Just my
two cents worth.

I certainly agree with that!

I also agree with you on this, Nick.

From what I can make out the 2724 is carrying X616? in the indicator. If indeed the number was only '616' that would
match a number that T&NO assigned to a F9 they rebuilt from a F3 that SP had transferred to their subsidiary sometime after 1952.
On the other hand, if there is a fourth number that is being obscured then that would place the number somewhere 6160-6169 which
matches a F7 built 1949. I'm leaning toward the later.

Then Nick added:

....."which would indicate she was helping a regular train.".....

Here's where we split ways. Extra trains, (as shown here by the X in the indicator of the 2724) are not regular trains.

I know, I know; cheap shot but I just couldn't resist. When you've spend as much time as I did trying to stay out of trouble on the railroad these old habits die hard.
I'll try to do better tomorrow. On a serious note though, these films that SP2778 is posting are priceless!!

First of all, thank you for your kind remarks because I'm certainly no expert on the SP.

As regards to the train, you may very well be correct as I only got a glimpse of the number board,
just enough to see it wasn't the 2724.  I certainly didn't see the "X" that you did, so would agree
with your assessement.

Yes, these Barney Root films are priceless, and all the legion of SP fans on this site MUST be
engaged in excessive drooling!  I know I would if they were Santa Fe or Great Northern films!
