Date: 08/21/16 15:50 Re: Zephyr through Naperville Author: SPDRGWfan I justed googled the museum. There was a listing about the train in 2012 making trips to Quincy and coach tickets listed at $129. What a trip that would have been. It was listed as the first run for that train since 1968!!

Gordon Date: 08/21/16 17:29 Re: Zephyr through Naperville Author: Spoony81 The IRM people did a great job. My wife and I rode in the Parlor Car for the roundtrip between Galesburg and Quincy on the Saturday. Even the long delay sitting in West Quincy since we were accused of setting line side fires didn't dampen the day.

That was the trip this video was taken of,on the Sunday return.First time since 68 it ran at mainline speed I believe, and I don't think it's run on it's own on a mainline,at track speed since. It does run at the museum fairly often though. Now that you mention it,it did in fact go to Quincy.I think it ran Chi-Galesburg,for Railroad Days, with the option of continuing on to Quincy. No Railroad Days is the last weekend of June. This trip was in late September of 2012. It was broken up into 3 segments. Chicago - Quincy Roundtrip Chicago-Galesburg Roundtrip (you had 2 hours or so to wait on it to return from the Quincy run.) Galesburg-Quincy Roundtrip The E5 and Nebraska Zephyr cars have been on the mainline at track speed since '68. It ran to Galesburg RR Days in 1994. Video on YouTube shows it overtaking a SP stack train east of Galesburg at 79mph. It also ran down to Texas in '94 to help dedictate the new SD70MAC's. Here is a link that shows all the places it went that year http://www.irm.org/railwire/rw153.html Posted from iPhone Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/21/16 17:59 by Spoony81. A terrific video which I have added to my favorites. --Kelly Date: 08/21/16 20:08 Re: Zephyr through Naperville Author: UP951West Absolutely terrific video ! Thanks for sharing.
I rode Galesburg to Quincy and return. What a ride at 79 mph ! Wish there would be another fast running excursion like that one. How about it IRM ? --Kelly Date: 08/22/16 08:49 Re: Zephyr through Naperville Author: ntharalson wp1801 Wrote:
