SP2778,

The first two trains are for the Jeffery, KS power plant. This train loaded most often at the Eagle Butte mine (about 11 times a week in 2000) and was interchanged with the UP at Northport.

I think the third train with the caboose is from the Tolk power plant near Muleshoe, TX. It was turned over to the Santa Fe at Pueblo and operated in dark territory between La Junta and Amarillo. That's why the caboose.

Thanks for sharing from your collection.

I didn't know they loaded any place else in coal country.  When I was
out there last fall, they were operating with solid UP power.  BN reconfigured
Northport to accomodate these trains.

I wonder why they changed in Pueblo, since the crews were Santa Fe
from Denver to Pueblo.  Must have been a rate thing to maximize the BN's
diversion.

Ditto on the thanks. I always enjoy watching these videos.

Three 40's and a fuel tender, ah, the good old days.  These shots were taken in
the Ponderosa Ranch area.  Looking at the downhill shot, the higher hill in the background
you could drive to and shoot, which I did last September.  Sad to lose this if the ranch
does get sold.

It's between Crawford and Belmont in northwest Nebraska.

To be a bit more precise, if you take a highway map and follow Nebraska 2
northwest out of Alliance, the last couple of miles will be Crawford Hill, also
called Belmont Hill. I'm not sure if Belmont is shown on non-De Lorme maps,
but there are highway signs on Nebraska 2 pointing the way.
