Why did Conrail eschew the strut on the center axle of their SD40-2's?  I'm sure I've
heard the reason somewhere, but I can't remember off hand.  TMSTR

I normally do not care to watch videos showing most of or all of a freight train.  However, in the case, I appreciated seeing all of the graffiti-free rolling stock cars and the CR, BN, SP and C & NW freight cars.

The Amtram "New Look" bus seen at the beginning of the video is also a treat.

Thanks for the memories.

They didn't. They rode on Flexicoil trucks instead of HT-Cs.

And, 6357 is not a -2. It's ex PRR 6104 to PC 6104 of EMD Class 3-66.  And it is the highest nmbrd straight SD40 on CR. 6358 was the first SD40-2 delvrd to CR.  Ben

Still doesn't answer the question why?

Flexicoil-C trucks do not have a damper on the center axle. Never did.

Know that.  Why did Conrail use Flexcoils and not the HTC trucks?  That's the question.
