I bet it was heading to Colton, but helpers on a 52 car train plus the engineer didn't have the gyralite running, what's up with that!

Almost certainly the PTOAT (Portland-Oakland Intermodal). This train routinely ran "mixed" by the late 1980's complete with mid-train helpers (that was a small helper set as most helpers were 5 units cut-in). I've seen it run with 6000+ feet of manifest train and only a single intermodal car but it was still a "T" train (intermodal).

Only thing different from the BROAT  days is the lack of empty autoracks. Pig traffic had died off from the train by the late 70s, so it was lumber and XARs

Cool video showing an interesting mix of cars and trailers. All those 89' flats with a single trailer make it look so empty compared to the solid double stacks of today.

Anyone know what the green BN flat (bulkhead / centerbeam) was carrying? I remember seeing those as a kid through Dunsmuir...looks like solid metal cylinders of some sort.
