May 28 is the start of the Cumbres & Toltec 2016 season. Today is April 28, so we are one month away from the start. The official countdown on the Chama Webcams page (many, many thanks to the Friends for this!) is at 29 days, 14 hours and ticking down as I type this!

On July 21, 2015, C&TS 488 starts an 8-car consist from the depot at Chama in what would be one of the steamiest startups I've ever seen (live or webcam) and the best chase I've had on the 4%. 488 is currently sitting outside the shop, completely stripped, undergoing a 1,472 day rebuild, but it's said that if all goes well, it'll be back up and running about 2/3 of the way through the season.

Thanks, Margaret! 488 is probably my favorite C&TS locomotive, so it was nice to be able to chase her up the hill.
