Southern 630 and 4501 doubleheaded
Author: MaryMcPherson

Last night I posted a video edit featuring some of the audio recorded aboard 2-8-0 #630 over the weekend.  Here is a video of some of the highlight from this weekend.  Four of us were filming this weekend, with two per vehicle.  We were able to really mix it up, with very little duplication.  The great thing about this line is that the slow speed of the train allows time to drop one camera at a location, drive to another nearby location, and then pick up the photographer on the way to the next location; doubling the bang for your buck, you might say.

All but the last shot is from Saturday, with the final shot being taken at sunset on Sunday.

Enjoy!

Great video Mary. I am old enough to remember main line steam in revenue service and l can't even begin to tell you how many memories your video brings back. To see a double header was a blast from the past. Keep up the good work.

This was the last pair of Summerville Steam Specials for the year, operated by the Tennessee Valley Railroad between the museum at Chattanooga and Summerville, Georgia, on the Chattanooga & Chickamauga's former Central of Georgia route.

Locations are as follows:
1.  Coupling up at the Tennessee Valley's Grand Junction station, Chattanooga, Tennessee
2.  Starting up at Grand Junction
3.  Grand Junction curve
4.  Missionary Ridge Grade at Rossville, Georgia
5.  Missionary Ridge Grade at Rossville
6.  Missionary Ridge Grade at the Battlefield Parkway overpass south of Rossville
7.  Photo run at Chickamauga, Georgia
8.  Passing the Northwest Georgia Technical College south of Rock Spring, Georgia
9.  Reaching the bottom of Missionary Ridge Grade at Rossville on the return to Chattanooga

You are among the best of videos on TO.   Thank you so much for sharing your work.  I love that final scene with the smoke plume hanging over the train and twighlight lighting.  You nailed it.  Great job of editing to get it all in 5 minutes.
