During the family's reunion this past summer, I traced the remnant traces of the Emigrant Trail westward from Donner Pass, past Norden, through Soda Springs and along Kidd Lakes Road to Spruce where I caught Amtrak #6, the Eastbound California Zephyr as it crossed over the Lower Cascade Bridge. Pulling loaded wagons up and over the Pacific Crest was difficult, but getting loaded wagons down the 500-foot drop from Kidd Lake to the Yuba River here in the vicinity of Spruce was likely a tough job too.

I agree -- that is a really pretty location, and your video is really nice.
Thanks for posting it here.  (Native Californian, and huge SP fan,
but never heard of either Kidd Lakes or the Caccade Bridge.)

I've been up there but never dropped down to Spruce. Were you driving or hiking?
