Trainorders.com Announces 2008 Railroad Structures Photo Contest Winners

Grand Prize Winner 1 $150 Prize

This winning image was captured by Alex Ramos on August 25, 2007 while UP's MNWRV was working its way across the Benicia bridge. The train went into emergency and sat there for several hours while the conductor walked the train. This left Alex and his friend Mikey plenty of time to shoot the train. Alex noticed that if he got closer to the water, several faint shadows from the bridge were visible. He placed the camera just in the right position to get an interesting pattern in the water. The image was taken with a Nikon D200 at 18mm. The exposure was 30 seconds at F.18 ISO 200.

Grand Prize Winner 2 $150 Prize

This image captured by Ken Kuehne while stopped at a railroad crossing waiting for a train to clear. Ken had taken shots of railroad equipment with the train blurring by before, but he had never considered shooting through the train. He shot about 12 shots out the window of his vehicle and chose the best one to submit. Ken used a Canon 30D DSLR with a 1/30 of a second shutter speed. He wasn't entirely sure what to do with the shot till he saw this year's subject for the TO photo contest and figured it would be an interesting entry.
